Our Preservative Blend is made with Propanediol, Methylparaben & Propylparaben. It is a broad spectrum preservative used in almost all forms of cosmetic formulations. Parabens can be inactivated by non-ionic emulsifiers and also with strong hydrogen bonders such as ethoxylated compounds. For example, the polysorbate in the emulsifying wax is both ethoxylated and non-ionic. This preservative is similar to Germaben II except our blend does not have the formaldehyde releaser Diazolidinyl Urea which is a very potent preservative. This blend is a weaker form and is designed to be used with other ingredients such as chelators like Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate to help boost the preservation.

  • Soluble in Organic Solvents: Ether, acetone.
  • Partially Soluble/Miscible in Water: Propanediol can help solubilize parabens to some extent in water.

The mixture is soluble in alcohols and organic solvents, while its solubility in water is partial.
