Welcome to Essential Labs, located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, in Portland, OR. We pride ourselves as being a premium, naturally derived skin and hair care manufacturer, with over 20 years of experience in crafting unique and effective products.

In order to best serve our customers, we want to spread awareness on some of the foundations of our brand. Please familiarize yourself with the definitions below, and know that we use these to communicate internally… they’re essential!
Essential Labs Brand Definitions
Chemical- Every ingredient in the world is a chemical (even water!)
- USDA Certified Organic ingredient of product
- Organic, Certified - Oregon Tilth, NSF 305
- Plant or animal derivative; retains its molecular structure without chemical modification
- Carrier oils, essential oils, powders, butters, waxes, ferments
- Plant or animal derivatives where new molecular structures are created
- Many surfactants, many emulsifiers, some preservatives
- Lab synthesized or processed to create the same molecular structure as the naturally occurring chemical makeup.
- Many vitamins, many minerals, many actives
Synthetic Ingredients
- Not nature identical
Everything else
- Dimethicone, silicone, etc.
- The purposeful sourcing and manufacture of products that do not adversely affect the environment for future generations.
- Sustainability is a mindset and a process we engage in to decrease our footprint year over year.
Since the FDA & FTC doesn’t regulate some terms, but people can still sue for what they deem to not be inside the Fair Packaging and Labeling Act under Truth in Labeling, it’s important to define how we see these terms and share with you our definitions. If you have your own customers, make sure you are doing your part to be as clear as you can on how you define your terms and claims.
